These programs provide outstanding early-career researchers and early-to-mid-career African faculty researchers with intensive AI and data science experience to enable breakthroughs across research fields. The Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science African Faculty Fellowship: This 2-year program supports faculty members and researchers in similar positions in Africa to apply AI to research in biological science, earth and environmental science, engineering, the physical sciences, and mathematics. The program comprises 12-month residency at the U-M Ann Arbor campus and 12 months in the Fellow’s home institution in Africa. The Michigan Data Science Fellowship: This 2-year program provides training in the application of AI and data science to social science, biomedical, and healthcare research, as well as data science methodology development.
