Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:00 PM or 8:00 AM-4:00 PM (candidate preference)
OverviewThe Authorization Specialist I is responsible for securing medical authorizations from third-party payers (commercial and government) for post-acute services. This role ensures timely pre-service approvals by managing documentation, payer communications, and tracking authorization outcomes. The specialist plays a key role in maintaining financial clearance and supporting patient access operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesComplete full financial clearance for scheduled visits (insurance verification, pre-registration, authorization).
Submit authorization requests and supporting clinical documentation to payers.
Follow up with payers to secure determinations, escalating as necessary.
Maintain and update patient accounts for medical and financial eligibility within Epic work queues.
Coordinate with patients and referring departments to collect missing information or communicate financial status.
Accurately document approvals and denials in a timely manner.
Stable weekday schedule, no weekends

High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
1-3 years of prior experience (authorization, patient access, or related role)
Tech savvy , comfortable with electronic systems
Epic EMR experience
Strong knowledge of medical terminology and clinical concepts
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent combination of education/experience)
Previous experience as a Patient Access Representative or Authorization Specialist
Prior exposure to commercial and government payer authorization processes
Strong communication and follow-up skills
Detail-oriented and highly organized
Adaptable to shifting daily priorities
Professional and empathetic when interacting with patients and payers
