Job Description
We are looking for a full-time editorial assistant to support two Editors, working across the SMP, Minotaur, and Griffin imprints. The ideal candidate will be able to efficiently manage a diverse set of responsibilities, and has an active interest in a variety of book club and upmarket women's fiction, thrillers, biography, and narrative non-fiction.
What you'll do: - Maintaining publication schedules and departmental databases, and otherwise tracking the publication process for approximately 25 titles per year
- Acting as a professional and responsive liaison throughout the publication process between authors, agents, and other internal departments, including Production, Managing Editorial, Marketing, Contracts, Publicity, and Art
- Logging agented submissions, evaluating manuscripts, writing reader reports, and sending rejection letters
- Drafting contract and check requests, generating sales reports and editorial P&Ls, updating online metadata fields, and tracking payments and invoices
- Writing, proofreading, and collaborating on flap copy, title information sheets, and catalog copy
- Basic administrative support, including coordinating meeting schedules, keeping track of upcoming deadlines, processing expenses, shipping packages, making travel arrangements, etc.
What you'll bring: - Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and exceptional time management
- A genuine interest in book publishing and knowledge of the current reading audience over a broad range of fiction and nonfiction
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to prioritize, set and meet deadlines, and work independently
- Proven ability to adapt to an increasingly digital work environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
Ideal Experience: - Preference for internships in the publishing industry or editorial experience in an academic setting
- Candidates with alternative (non-publishing industry-based) office experience are welcome
- Bachelor's Degree or equal experience
This role will have an annual salary of $47,500.
