Fundraising Journalist/Lead Writer

Salary Band: $62,000- $77,000

Reports to: Development Director

Job Description:

Florida Rising is seeking a dynamic Fundraising Journalist/Lead Writer to spearhead our storytelling efforts within the development department. The ideal candidate will be a skilled author responsible for crafting impactful stories that engage and motivate diverse audiences, including donors, volunteers and the public. As the primary author, this individual will possess strong analytical and reporting skills, meeting tight deadlines while maintaining a keen "nose for news." 

Primary Responsibilities:

• Produce impactful fundraising content, including grant proposals, appeal letters, conversion pages, speeches and solicitation emails.
• Craft compelling narratives for grant reports, organizational updates, and other materials
• Lead as Editor of the monthly newsletter, ensuring impactful and informative content delivery.
• Maintain a dynamic internal knowledge bank, fostering continuous improvement and generating aspirational ideas for program narratives.
• Conduct external interviews, collaborate with the communications team, and serve as an intermediary connecting funding to innovative ideas.

Qualifications and Experience: 

• At least 3 years of journalism and field reporting experience is preferred.
• Experience in political campaigns, unions or grassroots organizing is preferred.
• Excellent writing skills and ability to analyze issues and develop frames and messages.
• Takes initiative, coordinates projects effectively and is deadline oriented.
• Skilled at taking direction and working collaboratively to advance the mission/goals of the organization.
• Ability to respectfully interact with people of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable means of transportation; travel may be required throughout the state.
• Applicants must share a strong commitment to Florida Rising’s mission and be able to draw others into Florida Rising work.
• Self-motivated; ability to take initiative and to manage multiple projects; and ability to work independently.
• Ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team to advance the mission/goals of the organization.
• Fluency in English is required, and capacity in Spanish or Haitian Creole is beneficial.
