Job Title: Income Tax Preparer
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Band: 1 Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Employment Type: Full-Time/ Seasonal
Reporting to: Income Tax Program Manager
Department: Empowerment and Integration
Scope:
The Income Tax Preparer is responsible for providing quality services and preparing no-cost tax returns at assigned tax sites for eligible taxpayers, and upholding the highest ethical standards.
Tax Preparer Responsibilities:
Ensure high-quality service is provided to clients during the intake, tax preparation, and quality review process
Provide accurate tax returns that adhere to ethical and quality standards
Complete a thorough intake and interview process with each client to obtain necessary information and verify documents
Facilitate integration of Wayne Metro programs and saving products and services
Comply with security, privacy, confidentiality, and standard of conduct regulations set by the IRS and Wayne Metro
Assist in the preparation and completion of data entry files
Promote saving at tax time
Assist in efforts to promote and increase the capacity of the Tax Program
Attend training sessions and assist in organizing community events
Perform other duties as assigned
Greet and assist clients through the intake, tax preparation, and quality review process.
Provide an accurate tax return upholding the highest quality and ethical standards.

Comply and follow security, privacy, confidentiality, and standards of conduct set by the IRS and Wayne Metro.

Other duties as assigned, including assisting in different agency programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum of one year of experience in tax preparation
Highly organized, attentive to detail, and solution-oriented.
Minimum Competencies:
Working knowledge of basic internet applications and programs, including Google technology and Microsoft Office Word and Excel. The ability to learn and utilize the necessary programs and office equipment for this position.
Willingness to complete IRS VITA/TCE Program Certifications within two weeks of the date of hire.
Maintain a positive attitude towards assigned work, clients, and staff.
Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure.
Uses sound judgment and initiative to analyze and resolve problems.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
Good interpersonal and professional skills include professional appearance, tact, punctuality, planning, organizing, and dependability.
Ability to provide services for those persons facing economic, social, health, age, and educational barriers.
Ability to work independently or in a team environment (as deemed necessary).
Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This job operates in a professional office environment with a usually quiet noise level. This is largely sedentary, and the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, frequently use hands, and talk or hear.
Licensing and Other Requirements:
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Travel Requirements:
Ability to travel to various sites throughout Wayne County.
Work Hours: Work schedule to be determined by program needs. Saturdays are required and required to work in person five days a week.
