Position Description
The Metro Department of General Services (DGS) is responsible for providing shared services to support to the business operations of various departments in Metro government. Among these services is management of a portion of Metro’s real estate assets including the design and maintenance of interior environments and workstations.
The Interior Design Project Manager (Tech Spec 1) position performs interior design and project management tasks. Projects originate from on-demand work order requests, evolving workplace needs of departments, and planned maintenance. This position is currently a hybrid position that allows for some remote work in a general office setting as well as work required in the field.
Typical project types include finish upgrades, workstation reconfigurations using both new and existing products, and preparing scoping drawings for small-scale interior renovations involving coordination with multiple disciplines using Metro vendors.
In this unique position as an owner representative, the candidate will experience all phases of a project’s life including funding requests, budgeting, design and customer interaction, material and service procurement, installation and acceptance, and ongoing maintenance.
Departments rely on General Services’ team to maintain their work environment and facilitate growth and other changes. Responding with a sense of urgency is essential to fostering positive relationships and accomplishing tasks in a timely manner. The candidate must be a self-starter with excellent decision-making skills; work on multiple concurrent projects; and adapt to and prioritize changing work assignments.
Typical Duties
Manage on-demand customer work order requests and small to medium-scale projects requiring interior design services.
Meet with customers to verify scope of work and funding availability.
Field measure spaces and existing furniture systems and generate accurate plans in AutoCAD.
Assess warehouse inventory of existing furniture and workstation components.
Prepare space plans, finish selections, and furniture layouts for review with customer.
Prepare scoping documents to solicit service quotes from other Metro vendors.
Communicate project needs to Metro Information Technology Services (ITS) and coordinate workflow.
Request and review quotes for furniture procurement.
Coordinate and manage furniture installations including vendor labor schedules, responsibilities, and access for multiple locations.
Review and approve vendor invoices.
Manage customer expectations with frequent and effective communication.
Assist capital projects team with FF&E coordination and move management services as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by job related technical education and eight (8) years of experience in the field of interior design or related field.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in related field
Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications
Experience using AutoCAD and CET software or similar tool for furniture design
Experience with Commercial Furniture
