The new Clemson University Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is seeking applicants for several full-time faculty positions who will play a pivotal role in the development and implementation of the Clemson DVM curriculum. The primary responsibilities of this position are teaching and service with substantial opportunities for research and scholarship if desired. Academic rank would be commensurate with experience.These faculty will play a vital role in developing and delivering the curriculum for the next generation of veterinarians for the state of SC. The individuals in these educator roles will be general and specialist clinicians and veterinary or biomedical scientists with a passion for education and a commitment to student success.The Clemson DVM curriculum () is based upon integrative, collaborative team teaching where faculty with varying backgrounds can work together to offer students an inclusive and innovative learning environment. The faculty can expect to participate in teaching in a variety of areas (based on their interest, expertise and experience) including, but not limited to, foundational sciences (e.g. anatomy, physiology, immunology), applied sciences (e.g. animal welfare and behavior, pharmacology, public health) and clinical sciences (e.g. small and large animal medicine and surgery). Utilizing state of the art classrooms, laboratories, and teaching technology with both live animals and simulation models, these faculty members will be asked to adopt an integrated educational approach to provide students with a strong foundation of cognitive, clinical, and professional competencies, in preparation for entry into the partially distributive model of clinical training in the fourth year. Overview of Clemson and the CVM Located in South Carolina's beautiful and fast-growing Upstate, Clemson University is the land-grant university of South Carolina and ranks among the country's top 50 national public universities in the U.S. News & World Report. Clemson University maintains its status as an R1 Carnegie Research Institution while maintaining a strong focus on undergraduate education.The CVM is currently seeking accreditation by the American Veterinary Medicine Association-Council on Education to offer the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree to approximately 80 students per cohort starting in 2026 (pending approval). The CVM plans to utilize a partial distributive model of clinical training for students. Its brand-new state of the art campus will reside in Pendleton, SC, near the T. Ed Garrison Arena, will house research and teaching labs, and utilize both ambulatory services as well as teaching sites at the Clemson University Equine Center, Lamaster Dairy Cattle Center, and other locations for education in the field.In 2023, the Board of Trustees approved Clemson Elevate, the university's new strategic plan. Overview of the Position

Reporting to the Department Chair and working closely with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, these faculty will:

  • Create and deliver the pre-clinical (years 1-3) DVM curriculum with the guidance of the faculty leads (foundational sciences, clinical skills and professional development). Details of the course work and responsibilities will be mutually agreed upon based on the individual's interest, expertise and experience and the needs of the curriculum.

  • Develop and provide assessments in alignment with the overall competency-based curriculum.

  • Collaborate with other faculty to ensure integration of knowledge and skills across courses and years.

  • Serve as advisors and mentors to DVM students.

  • Serve on CVM and campus committees as appointed or elected.

    Additionally, the faculty member must have the ability to:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the core values of Clemson University.

  • Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, possess exemplary verbal and written communication skills, with exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and function independently with limited supervision and guidance.

  • Work in partnership with faculty and staff across multiple disciplines and functions across the college and university.

  • Participate in research and scholarship initiatives designed to improve educational and professional outcomes.

    Qualifications

    • DVM, PhD or equivalent

    Preferred qualifications include :

    • Board certification or residency training in a veterinary specialty recognized by the ABVS (ACVIM, ABVP, etc)

    • Experience and a history of excellence in teaching foundation (e.g. anatomy, physiology, immunology) applied (e.g. animal welfare and behavior, pharmacology, public health), or clinical (e.g. small and large animal medicine and surgery) sciences.

    • 2-plus years of relevant experience in veterinary medicine or education
