EXECUTIVE SERVICE

(*This position serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.*) The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities across Maryland, including four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes. Note: To be considered for this position, apply online at Nature Of Work The Background Investigator is a civilian employee responsible for conducting background investigations on applicants seeking employment as entry-level police officers, lateral police officers, police cadets, police dispatchers, and select civilian positions within the MDTA Police. Additionally, the investigator will assist the Police Recruitment Unit with events and recruitment efforts. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Obtaining personal and professional information about applicants through interviews and reference checks with neighbors, co-workers, family, school officials, and employers. Assembling all pertinent information and preparing detailed investigation reports. Ensuring compliance with MDTA Police Directives, Recruitment Unit SOPs, TSHRS policies, and MPCTC regulations. Coordinating and processing background investigation requests as directed by police supervision. Utilizing databases and resources such as METERS, LINX, CJIS, NCIC, Maryland Case Search, credit monitoring services, social media, etc., during background research. Fingerprinting applicants and submitting their fingerprints to the Maryland CJIS Central Repository and FBI for criminal history reports. This position reports directly to the Police Recruitment Section Manager. The current vacancy is located in Baltimore County, MD. Hybrid telework schedules may be available. The role requires the ability to lift up to 40 pounds for files, fingerprinting equipment, recruitment supplies, etc. MDTA offers a comprehensive benefits package, including at least 11 paid holidays, a minimum of 27 days of leave annually, access to the State Pension System, deferred compensation plans, and excellent health, dental, and vision coverage. Qualifications Preferred Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Experience: At least four years in administrative or professional work, including one year of conducting investigative interviews. Ideal Candidate Attributes: Strong communication and interpersonal skills Experience with law enforcement databases Experience with electronic background software (eSOPH) Proficiency in Microsoft Office Knowledge of law enforcement procedures and court processes Ability to work independently and collaboratively Strong organizational skills to manage multiple assignments and deadlines Two years of experience working in the Federal Government is preferred Applicants should include all relevant experience, including volunteer, military, or acting capacities, on their application. If you have held multiple positions at the same employer, list each with its duration. Notes Substitution of 30 college credits per year of experience, up to four years. Possession of a Bachelor's degree can substitute for the experience requirement. Possession of a Master's degree can substitute for the experience requirement. Military service involving staff work related to administration, rules, or overseeing operations can substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis. Licenses and Certifications Applicants must possess a valid Maryland Driver's License, with license number and expiration date included in the application.
